A London Artist Makes Striking Portraits Of Dogs Abandoned By Their Owners (Photo Gallery)

A British photographer has tried to capture the plight of many dogs that have been abandoned by their masters in a series of striking portraits. Even without being able to express themselves verbally, these animals manage to make us feel their pain..

Hard to believe but yet nearly 100,000 pets are abandoned each year in countries like France and Britain alone. Affected by this phenomenon, the British photographer Martin Usborne  has produced a series of portraits entitled “Nice to meet you” in which he captures the grief of the dogs abandoned by their owners.

”From my own experience, these dogs have the ability to communicate certain feelings more directly, even if they do not have words ” the photographer says on his website. Hidden behind a smokescreen, a wet glass or under a veil, symbolizing the neglect and misunderstanding, dogs present in photographs manage to make us all feel their sadness.

More than half of the animals are abandoned during the summer. It is hoped that these poor dogs quickly find their caring and loving owners. What do you think should be done to fight against the abandonment of pets?
