Lake Sørvágsvatn is in the heart of the island of Vagar in the Faroe Islands between Norway and Iceland. Its area is about 3.4 km² making it one of the largest lakes in the Faroe Islands. Its peculiarity: at a certain angle, it seems to be perched in height and separated by at least 100 meters from the Atlantic Ocean. We present you this majestic lake.
In fact, about 30 meters separate the waves of the ocean. The incredible distance to the ocean is in fact an optical illusion. The angle of the photograph gives the impression that the lake is at the same height as the cliff.
Surreal! The nature sometimes plays with our senses for our enjoyment. In writing, we were fascinated by this optical effect.
