Images To Show The Position Of Earth in the Universe (Photo Gallery)

If sometimes the immensity of mountains and skyscrapers surprised you, then you must brace yourself for more surprises. As, if you study astronomy you will be amazed by the vastness of this universe and the fact that our Earth in universe is like a sand particle in desert. More recently a person posted some new photos on wikipedia to put the things in perspective. These eight photos show that where does our earth fit in this universe.

400 years back, human beings believed the Earth was the center of the Universe. After that, Copernicus discovered that Sun is at the center of earth orbit. However, Sun is not the center of universe. With improved space observation telescopes now we know that there are billions of galaxies, supernovas, other solar system planets that are billions of light years away from us. It is even suspected that some planets even have favourable conditions to sustain life.

Given all this information about the immensity of our universe, we feel that we are very small as compared to this wonderful universe. The recent photos on Wikipedia precisely clear our perspective about position of Earth in this huge and expanding space. The postion of Earth with respect to: the solar system , the Local Interstellar Cloud , the Milky Way , the galactic Local Group , the Virgo supercluster , the complex supercluster Fish Whale And finally … the observable universe.

We already knew that the universe is infinitely greater than  the Earth . But these pictures provide us with an accurate picture about where our Earth is located in the universe. Does the universe size fascinates?
